They are vandal proof and the plastic dome also protects the camera lenses from glares or direct light. These cameras allow perfectly visibility during day or night and prove to have a very strong dissuasive impact.
However, the additional security you would gain from using a dome style camera can prove to become very costly. A more wallet friendly alternative to actual surveillance cameras is the use of so-called dummy cameras. They have the same appearance, they are also equipped with motion censors and they even have flashing LEDs indicating that the camera is supposedly functioning. They look exactly like an actual security camera, but in fact they are not operational. Their purpose is only to scare away any unwanted company. And they do so very effectively at a low price.
Using a security camera or something that looks like it, may not prevent a robbery every time. But it will for sure make the robbers think twice before they take a step in the camera-equipped place.
